About Me
HI! I’M JUAN
Fitness has been an integral piece of my life for as long as I can remember. From playing little league baseball when I was a young boy to breakdancing, parkour, roller hockey, street football and karate in my teens to fitness training in my early 20s. But through out that time I also had a different passion, design. By combining fitness and graphic design I was able to create the visual workouts that represents JLFITNESSMIAMI.
There’s plenty of fitness brands and companies online that produce articles, videos and other long form content. But I strive to do one thing better than any other, and that’s creating the best visual workouts.
As an introvert, this approach made a lot of sense to me. I love to help and educate others but I don’t like being front and center.
I currently reside in Miami with my partner, my teenager and our dog Jasper. When I’m not creating workouts, I go for long walks, play with my dog, read books, learn new skills on domestika.org (one of my favorite websites) and draw for hours on my ipad.

Fitness books I recommend
“Poliquin Principles: Successful Methods for Strength and Mass Development by Charles Poliquin (2013) Paperback”. This is possibly the most informative and actionable training book I’ve ever read. Good luck finding it anywhere though.
Another book I like is “Glute Lab: The Art and Science of Strength and Physique Training by Bret Contreras” . Bret is a genius and does an excellent job at breaking things down in a simple way.
Other books I love
For branding, marketing creativity:
“Purple Cow by Seth Godin“. This book propelled me into reading other books. I’ve read most of Seth’s books. Whatever he produces I will read for the rest of my life.
“Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative by Austin Kleon” rewired my brain, totally. You can read this illustrated book in an afternoon. This book’s target audience is mostly for creatives in different design fields, but this book can help anyone really. I look at things differently almost everyday because of this book.
If you want to dive into fun and entertaining stories about the human race then “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Harari“. The stories in this book will enlighten you and give you an interesting perspective on the evolution of humans.
I suffer a little from climate anxiety. Climate anxiety or Eco-anxiety is defined as “a chronic fear of environmental doom”. Living in Miami and having to worry about dodging hurricanes every year has not helped either. There is more wild fires, flooding and violent storms over the world than ever before. The Carbon Almanac: It’s Not Too Late is a fantastic book if you want to understand climate change in a very digestible manner. The illustations in the book also does a fantastic job in assisting the scientific terms. I love the following quote by Anne-Marie Bonneau:
“We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”
The small things we do to combat climate change might seem small, but collectively I strongly believe It can help.
How I create my content
I design all the workouts in Adobe Photoshop and do some of the animated stuff in Adobe After Effects.
Favorite ways to workout
I walk at least 2 miles a day. Sometimes I do 3 miles. I sit in front of the computer a lot so going for walks gives me a chance to get some fresh air and to reset. Walking gives me a chance to come back to my desk with more energy and fresh ideas. Sometimes I listen to podcasts, youtube shows or just music. Apart from my walks I do a 10 mile bike ride a week and I workout in my garage gym 3-5x a week. This depends on my mood, my sleep and how much work I have. I mostly do total body workouts.
